Alvaro Portillo is a Director of Photography from Chihuahua, Mexico. He studied Film and Graphic Design at John Brown University and holds a Master’s Degree in Sports Marketing and E-Sports Management from Universidad Europea Real Madrid. With over 15 years of experience, Alvaro has worked on international projects in Mexico, Argentina, India, Indonesia, and the United States, directing promotional videos, short films, music videos, commercials, and sports content.
Alvaro has built a strong presence in the sports world, working with professional clubs such as North Carolina FC (USL) and NC Courage (NWSL), where he produced matchday content, jersey reveals, player features, behind-the-scenes stories, and marketing campaigns designed to connect fans with the culture of the game. His approach blends cinematic storytelling with an understanding of sports branding, fan engagement, and fast-paced production environments.
Beyond sports, Alvaro has collaborated with major direct-response marketing startups and global brands, creating high-impact content for social and digital platforms. His client list includes Universal, Disney, HBO, Dollar Shave Club, Smile Direct Club, Savage X Fenty, NordicTrack, and more. He is experienced in leading productions from concept through delivery, working with both large crews and lean teams.
Outside of his professional work, Alvaro is passionate about film, sports, and music. He enjoys traveling, exploring new cuisines, and immersing himself in different cultures—experiences that heavily influence his storytelling perspective.
Most recently, Alvaro produced and directed the photography for a feature film shot in Los Angeles, California.
